Jonesboro teacher receives donation from Art InstituteThe Art Institute of Atlanta presented Jonesboro High School teacher Neva Head with a $525 check March 8, 2017. The donation is part of the institute’s initiative to give back to schools through the Adopt-A-Classroom Program. President Newton Myvett was on hand to present the check. In addition to the donation, students and teachers were invited to take part in a hands-on workshop at the university’s campus which provided students with an overview of the Adobe Photoshop program. Students were asked to take photos while touring the school, then given the opportunity to manipulate their photos in Photoshop.

100% JHS CTAE Students Earned Microsoft CertificationsThirty-five out of 35 Jonesboro High School students taught by Neva Head (WBL Coordinator) and Lisa Williams (Business & Computer Science) have an edge on some of their adult counterparts, having received Microsoft Certification this spring from Microsoft Corporation. That is according to Neva Head, the Work-Based Learning Coordinator — one of 13 Clayton County Public Schools CTAE programs to receive industry certifications April 28. “The CTAE Department is dedicated to providing our students real experiences in the classroom, at work sites, in competitive events and in their daily lives,” said CTAE Coordinator Eboni Chillis. “The industry certification process is another authentic opportunity for students to demonstrate hard and soft skills that are needed in the global marketplace.”

WBL Coordinator takes 75 students to the Metro Atlanta Task Force Homeless Shelter to give backDuring CTAE Month Ms. Head oversaw 75 students who prepared and served over 450 sandwiches at the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless Shelter located at Peachtree and Pine Street in Downtown Atlanta. Students from various CTSO’s and members of the 4-AAAA back to-back State Championship Basketball Team participated in this humbling event.
